Orlando Bloom plays a small-town police officer faced with risky business in the ensemble drama 'Main Street,' and ET has a sneak peek behind the scenes in Durham, North Carolina! "I like these kinds of movies; I enjoy going to see a slice of life, the way [these] kind of people live," says Orlando. "I like the idea of playing a cop; kind of thinking about how a cop goes about his daily life and what he comes up against."

Orlando perfected his Southern drawl for his character (he even gives his interview with an accent), and he says working with a coach "on the sounds" has "been fun." Written by the late Oscar and Pulitzer Prize winner Horton Foote ('To Kill a Mockingbird,' 'Tender Mercies'), 'Main Street' follows a group of people in a small, down-and-out American town whose lives are shaken up by a mysterious stranger's (Colin Firth) arrival on their Main Street, where he chooses to store hazardous waste in a warehouse.

"They've asked me to come over and take a look, and to me it's a bit like I'm dealing with the cat in the tree issue," explains Orlando. "And then I come in and I see all of these canisters laid out; they look pretty ominous."

Orlando Bloom trains at Empower Personal Training
posted by Jas, 05/14/09
Empower Personal Training has posted a photo and an article about Orlando and pet dog Sidi doing some exercise at their training center during the shooting of Main Street in Durham.

While actor Orlando Bloom was in Durham filming the movie Main Street he trained here at Empower Personal Training. Many of you were able to meet him or least pet his dog Sidi, who was often lounging around while Orlando was working out. We had fun getting to know Orlando (and Sidi) over the past month and he had a great experience training here. Orlando's role as a small town police officer in the movie Main Street did not require any specific physique changes, but he embodies a lifestyle that we encourage all of our clients to embrace: complete with very regualar exercise and a well balanced diet. Orlando is used to training 4-5 times per week and he didn't want his fitness regimen to be interrupted during his month-long stay in Durham.

Here's what Orlando had to say about Empower!
I had such a great experience at EMPOWER. The trainers and staff balance kindness with professionalism. And I loved the functional style workouts. They're as physical as anything I've tried. This studio really lives up to its name.
