Fire telethon a star effort
posted by Jas, 02/15/09
Some of Australia's biggest stars participated in a telethon on Friday to aid victims of this week's deadly bushfires ravaging the state of Victoria and Orlando had flown in to help.

The spirit inside Nine during the Australia Unites appeal was incredible, with everyone keen to help out, including international actor Orlando Bloom. Bloom was an absolute pleasure to deal with and was by the phone for most of the night with his girlfriend, Miranda Kerr, not far behind.

Bloom volunteered to come down to Melbourne when he heard the appeal was happening. He has strong connections to Australia, after filming Ned Kelly in 2002 and spending lots of time in the country with Kerr. "My girlfriend's Australian, so my heart is always part in Australia," he said. Full report.

Daily Mail has a report and photos of Orlando shooting a concert scene for Sympathy for Delicious, more photos here. Absoluteimp has posted her report and photos here.

Nail polish, wild hair and covered in tattoos, this is Orlando Bloom as you've never seen him before. The clean-cut Hollywood pin-up well and truly threw off his pretty boy image for his new role in the drama Sympathy For Delicious. The actor completely transformed his usually well-groomed appearance to play an aspiring rock star complete with fake tattoos, scruffy brown wig, heavy eye make-up and black nail polish. He filmed scenes for the movie at a theatre in downtown LA yesterday where he strutted around the stage shirtless - much to the delight of a screaming female audience.

The 32-year-old star of Pirates Of The Carribean stepped into the role after Milk actor James Franco pulled out at the 11th hour due to a scheduling conflict. In one scene Orlando's character is caught up in a on stage fight with his paralyzed bandmate 'Delicious' Dean O'Dwyer, played by theatre actor Christopher Thornton.

The movie, which also stars Juliette Lewis, follows Delicious as he turns to faith-healing and mysteriously gains the power to cure the sick. However, his healing powers do not extend to himself. The film is directed by Just Like Heaven actor Mark Ruffalo, who is returning to work for the first time his his brother Scott died in a shooting incident in December. Ruffalo will also take an acting role in the film as a Jesuit priest who helps the DJ explore his gift and accept its limitations.

Orlando to star in The Cross
posted by Jas, 02/04/09
Looks like Orlando has signed another movie, Variety reports that he will star in The Cross, co-starring Vincent Cassel and Olga Kurylenko . The movie will be directed by Andrew Nichol and principal photography starts in July in Australia.

Orlando Bloom, Vincent Cassel ("Eastern Promises") and Olga Kurylenko ("Quantum of Solace") will topline "The Cross," to be directed by Andrew Niccol ("Lord of War" ). Niccol has initiated pre-production on the $24 million sci-fi escape story, which is scheduled to start principal photography in July in Australia. CAA packaged "Cross" and is selling North American distribution rights. Gregoire Melin's Kinology is handling international rights.

Set in a border town, "Cross" returns Niccol -- Oscar-nommed for writing "The Truman Show" -- to his favorite domain: the near future. Bloom plays a man seeking to cross a mysterious border, something no one else has achieved; Cassel limns the guard who will go to any lengths to foil him. Kurylenko takes the femme lede. Structured as an Australia-France-Germany co-production, "Cross" is being produced by Bluewater Pics in Sydney, Paris' Spangherabero Films and Berlin's Opal Film Produktion. Wieland Schulz-Keil, Jonathan Shteinman, Jean-Vincent Puzos, Remi Burah and Niccol will produce; Alexander von Hohenthal is serving as German co-producer.

Sunday Mail has a report on Orlando's look in his upcoming film "Sympathy For Delicious", there are several paparazzi photos on the net but I'm not posting them here so go search for them.

Pirates Of The Caribbean hunk Orlando Bloom shows off his toned torso with a sexy, grunge look. The 32-year-old sported huge fake tattoos - a tree growing from his hip and up his chest, and two black bands on his arm - a shaggy brown wig and tight leather trousers. He is filming his latest role in the film Sympathy For Delicious. The movie, directed by Mark Ruffalo, tells the story of a paralysed DJ who realises he has the ability to heal people.
