Orlando Bloom, 21st century swashbuckler
posted by Jas, 03/29/07
Los Angeles Times has a short interview with Orlando

He's often compared to a modern day Errol Flynn. After all, Orlando Bloom has the good looks and the swashbuckling credits: He's played the bow-and-arrow-carrying elf in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, he starred in the sandals-and-swords Crusades drama "Kingdom of Heaven," and he's done his share of sword fighting in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" trilogy. Asked if he could, at this point, actually defend his life with a sword, Bloom laughed. "That's a good question," Bloom said during an interview after wrapping final shooting for Disney's latest installment in the series, "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End." "You know, I think I'd be all right, actually. I have good special awareness and I'm pretty comfortable with a sword. Of course, it would depend on my opponent."

from separate article

"At World's End" may not be the end of the world. Word on the Walt Disney Studios backlot is that, while "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," which opens on Memorial Day weekend, is the end of the trilogy, it may not be the end of the franchise. According to insiders, Johnny Depp has said he would be interested in keeping the swaggering Capt. Jack Sparrow alive in other pirate adventures and, as the film's production director Rick Heinrichs says, "If Johnny's interested, why wouldn't they?"

Many of the larger set pieces have been kept and put in storage. Costar Orlando Bloom says he too has heard the rumors. "But they haven't said anything to me," he said with a laugh during an interview, "so I guess I'm not coming back." In the meantime, those left hanging by "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" need have no fear — "World's End" promises a complete end to the story begun in 2003's "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl." "All questions will be answered," Bloom says.

Q: What's it like acting alongside Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom?
A: It's amazing, I mean, they are very beautiful. (laughs) Yes it is very easy on the eye. And they are really great as well, they are lovely and watching Johnny work, you know it's masterful really, it's taking an acting master class, so that's always enjoyable. And Orlando I have known for a very long time. We used to go up to things in London together so it's really nice you know to spend time with him as well. He's my mate, which is nice. Full interview

AWE trailer review

Review of At World's End trailer from Empire Online

It's all been a bit quiet on the Pirates Of The Caribbean 3 front recently, with some movie websites even speculating that the project's having a troubled edit. Newly arrived to hush the whispers is a slick trailer (watch it here) that proves two things — one, Jerry Bruckheimer knows how to cut an exciting two minutes of preview footage; two, this film is going to be HUGE.

Cue a colossal, apocalyptic whirpool with two ships battling as they swirl around its rim; a galleon sliding down a desert dune; a fantastic CG shot of the 'World's End' itself — a waterfall that makes Niagara Falls look like a babbling brook. Then there's peeks at favourite characters in action, with Johnny and the pirate monkey making a nice double-act, Keira looking tanned and sexy in that new Oriental outfit, and Pirates 2 baddie Davy Jones (Bill Nighy) seemingly throwing in his tentacled lot with the nefarious Admiral Norrington (Jack Davenport).

Despite the dull disappointment of Pirates 2, this trailer seems to indicate that the Pirates team has thrown everything in the pot this time. Let's hope for a trilogy closer of Return Of The King magnitude.

Orlando interview in VMan
posted by Jas, 03/20/07
Interconnector has posted an interview with Orlando from VMan magazine, see photoshoot here and here. Spoilers on Keith Richards appearance in AWE.

British actor Orlando Bloom was the most googled man in the world in 2006. This year’s he’s trading his reputation as a pretty face for that of a risk-taking actor. Just in case you thought we’d get more than one sentence into this interview without saying it: Orlando Bloom is a gorgeous man.

Yikes! The aquiline nose! Those gentle eyes! If we were pretty, we would be pretty in the way that Orlando Bloom is pretty, and I would encourage people to describe our gorgeousness as they do Orlando’s—with envy and thinly veiled contempt (preferably asking, “Is he more than just a pretty face?”). That out of the ay, is Orlando Bloom more than just a pretty face? The 30-year-old actor shot to stardom in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, galloping into fantasy lore on horseback as Legolas, the warrior elf, then slipping into short skirts opposite Brad Pitt and Eric Bana in Troy.

He has just finished shooting the last of the three blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean films, the second of which was the top-grossing film in the world last year. But despite that success, Bloom’s next move is unclear. In 2005, Kingdom of Heaven, a $150 million epic that provided Bloom’s first lead role, tanked, as did Elizabethtown, Bloom’s first opportunity to use an American accent and rare misfire for Cameron Crowe. The mixed box-office cred has contributed to the emergence of two schools of thought on Bloom: worshipful followers (Teen People, tabloids, LOTR fansites) and dismissive skeptics.

A 2005 profile in The Independent criticized his blankness in interviews and suggested he was just a ghost in the Hollywood machine. A 2006 New York Times article went even further, citing his box-office record as a prime example of Hollywood’s inability to manufacture a bankable 20-something star. So it’s kind of perfect that the idea of Orlando Bloom, the commodity, may have opened new doors for Orlando Bloom, the actor. In the latest season of Extras, the film-industry satire by Ricky Gervais (The Office), Bloom appeared as an over-the-top version of himself, a good-looking-and-he-knows-it actor who attracts women “like flies on ****,” devours tabloid articles in which he’s described as “Women’s No. 1 Fantasy Snog,” and is obsessed with denigrating Johnny Depp’s looks. (In real life, the two are friends.) “Look at me,” Bizarro Bloom crooned at a woman he wanted to score simply because she wasn’t interested. “Feel the attractiveness.”

As career moves go, it was one of the best in recent memory: Bloom displayed a sharp and previously untapped gift for comedy and a genuinely appealing sense of humor about himself. Bloom’s backstory is also more surprising than most realize. Having grown up in an artistic family in Canterbury, England, he was raised to believe that his biological father was just a family friend (his mother broke the truth to him as a teen). At 16, Bloom moved to London to go to drama school. In 1998, he broke his back in a three-story fall and was told he might not walk again. A year later, he was plucked out of obscurity and into Lord of the Rings, and what he describes as “the roller coaster” started.

In conversation, we found that Bloom had more god humor and intelligence than we’ve been trained to expect. And in fact, we did not even find him to be all that pretty, but of course the interview was done over the phone. Michael Martin

MICHAEL MARTIN What have you been working on?

ORLANDO BLOOM We just finished up the third in the trilogy of Pirates films, which was fun and amazing. You can’t knock being a pirate with that group of people. But I’ve been doing that for most of my adult life, and now I’m at the point where it’s time for a different direction.

MM What’s new in the third film? Did you have any scenes with Keith Richards?

OB Keith Richards does make an appearance. I wasn’t actually in the scene with him; he appears at a pirate court, at a gathering of all the pirates. The third movie brings all the series together, and you’re not sure who to trust. I was glad about that, because one of the things I wanted was for my character to have a bit more of a dark edge.

MM What was it like working with Johnny Depp on this one?

OB He’s a great guy, man. There’s nothing you can say about Johnny Depp that hasn’t been said. He keeps breaking the mold and doing things differently.

MM Has he given you any advice?

OB The crux of it is, basically, don’t take it too seriously. Take it seriously enough to do what you want. Do things for the right reasons. He always mixes it up: he’s a string of successful movies, and then he does smaller films, like The Libertine. He’s not caught up in one thing.

MM Pirates II had the biggest box-office gross last year. Has that afforded you freedom, or do you find it constricting?

OB Both. Freedom in that now I can do small movies if I want. I can bring them to the table. But success can also be limited because Pirates and Lord of the Rings are the movies that will stick in people’s heads when they think about me. Now it’s about breaking out of the pigeonholing.

MM Being drama-school trained, did you ever think you would be in all these epics?

OB No. The normal route is to do some theater in school and then maybe when you graduate try film. I did it the other way round. Lord of the Rings was my first gig. I feel like now I need to do some of the things I didn’t do on the way up. I’ve also got a few ideas for films. I’m going to really sit down and work with some writers and see if I can make things happen.

MM You are the second biggest Google search of 2006, under “Paris Hilton” and just above “podcasting” and “Hurricane Katrina.” What does that kind of attention do to you mentally?

OB I didn’t know that. Weird. In the past it has done my head in. It all changed dramatically and rather quickly with the Pirates movie—I was more recognizable and the film was widely received and hugely popular. But I’ve accepted it as part of my job, and I’m not stupid—you can’t have one without the other. There’s always a price to pay, so I can rationalize it. I’m really happy with my job and the life it’s afforded me to live. I’m also completely computer illiterate, so I’ve sort of been an ostrich with my head in the sand when it comes to reading or knowing anything that’s on the Internet. In this day and age, that’s pathetic and I’m ashamed to admit it, but I can slightly pretend I don’t really know what it’s about.

MM Does constantly ranking in hot-guy polls in Teen People make it easier or harder to get out of bed in the morning?

OB It did not improve my confidence. I think it did the opposite. Made me quite shy, really. I didn’t know what any of it meant. Johnny Depp told me, “Look, this doesn’t mean anything, just get on with it.” On the other hand, I really appreciate my fans, because their support gave me the opportunity to be in two trilogies, and in Kingdom of Heaven, which was my first big role. I screen-tested for that and I know that Ridley Scott wanted me, but it helped that there was a fan base already in place. To the people who spend $150 million making a movie, that’s important.

MM But the tabloids have really ratcheted up the attention on you lately.

OB Now that is really annoying. I can’t step out with anyone without supposedly being in a relationship with them. I’m a very social person and a lot of my friends are women. It’s infuriating that celebrity has become such a part of our culture. But at the same time, what can I do? Let them say what they want. I know what I’m about and what I’m trying to do. The older I get, the more I just say, “**** it.” I have friends I’ve had since I was 11 years old. They see the ups and downs and can laugh about it all.

MM How disappointing was the box-office failure of Elizabethtown?

OB Look, I don’t do movies because I want them to be a box-office success. There’s no recipe for a successful movie, no matter who’s in it. It boils down to whether the audience is ready for it. Blade Runner was one of Ridley Scott’s least successful movies. When it came out, it was a box-office failure, but years later it was the movie that inspired the MTV generation of directors. Of course, on one level, what happened was disappointing. I worked really hard on Elizabethtown. It was a very personal story for Cameron [Crowe], and I remember reading and loving the script. I have a really complicated story with my father that’s been talked about before, and I think that for a lot of men, whether they’ve lost their father or have a different parental dynamic, it’s a really personal story. The letters I get from people say Elizabethtown got them through difficult times in their lives.

MM Do you have interesting run-ins with Lord of the Rings fans?

OB The first time it happened was in Los Angeles. I had a blond wig in that movie and you couldn’t really recognize me, which was great, because I had anonymity but was part of something that was a great success. But then I was walking through the supermarket, and this woman sidled up next to me and just sort of whispered, “Are you my elf?” I was like, “Uh...your elf?” and she said “Are you...are you...Legolas?” I just went bright red and said, “Yeah.” It was in the middle of the vegetables. Occasionally you’ll see somebody dressed up as Legolas, especially in Japan. But that’s cool. To go home and make a little Legolas suit and come out in it takes confidence.

MM How’d you get into Buddhism, and what does it do for you?

OB It’s not really something I talk about. It’s a philosophy, a guide to life and to me it just makes sense. It’s been a great anchor. I find myself coming back to the teaching of the Lotus Sutra. It brings you in the rhythm with life.

MM In the Times of London, Courtney Love said you were over at her house doing chants. True?

OB No, not true, actually. A fried of mine is a friend of hers, and I know he was over there doing that. Maybe she was misquoted.

MM What films have you seen this year?

OB I love Blood Diamond. The Departed was brilliant. And Volver—Pedro Almodovar is an amazing filmmaker. Genius. I don’t know if it’s a European-Spanish thing, but I’m really attracted to his movies. He takes you into a world that’s so real.

MM Did you read the New York times article that dissected your career as a case study for Hollywood’s failure to find a 20-something blockbuster star?

OB I didn’t read it. I heard it was quite slating. You know how I said I was on this roller coaster and felt like I was hanging on for dear life? Maybe the context of the story was that I was being positioned by studios to be the blockbuster boy. But I never thought of myself as that. I’ve auditioned for all the movies that I’ve worked on, and I loved the scripts. I just happened to be around when they made blockbusters like Lord of the Rings and Troy.

But criticism just makes me work harder. It’s like when I was at school—I’ve always struggled with dyslexia, and the teachers would give me a hard time. It made me think, Well, **** you, I’ll just work harder. One of my drama-school teachers was this Russian director. I remember working with him on time and breaking down, thinking, What am I doing here? I can’t act. And he said, “What are you doing? Get the **** out.” He wrote me a card at the end of the semester saying, “Orlando, just keep banging your head against the wall, because soon enough it will give in.”

And that wall is not just in my career, it’s in my heart, my head. I’m not afraid of work, and I’m not afraid of falling. I always want to be better and never think, I’m good now, or I’ve arrived. I’ve recently [thought] about going back to school to become better at my craft. That’s the only thing that’s going to get me through the next thirty years. If I want to have legs—which I know I’ve got—I’ve got to keep working on the foundation.

MM You were great on Extras. Why did you want to do it?

OB Ricky Gervais is a fantastic comedian. I loved The Office. I’ve been away from England, my home, for so long that I wanted to do something British.

MM You hit a perfect tone. Did they take any of your ideas?

OB After I read the first script, we changed it a lot. Originally there wasn’t all this piss-taking at myself, and I said, “Look, there’s a great opportunity to have a good play at something.” We sat down and talked about the movie and I suggested why don’t we have a dig at my character, so they came back with this fantastic script.

MM Did you warn Johnny Depp about making fun of him?

OB Before I agreed to do it I sent it off to Johnny to get his approval, and he was, of course, cool with it. He loves British humor.

MM What would you like to do next?

OB To be honest, I need to regroup. I want to get into the control room and decide whether to go fast or slow or what direction to take. I’m even thinking about doing some theater here in England, and, like I said, I’m going to take some classes for sure. I’m excited to play different parts in smaller movies and do some producing—I had this small part in Haven, which I really enjoyed doing. There are a couple of British directors I find interesting and am talking to. I’d love to do a great British film. When we get it right, we get it really right, whether it’s something like The Queen or Trainspotting, which is one of my favorite movies. I’d love to start a new wave of British cinema. But who knows?

MM You’re smoking in these photos. When do you most feel like having a cigarette?

OB During the photo shoot, I was going through a smoking phase. A smoking phase is when I’m carefree and turning my back on myself. I’ll get rip-roaring drunk and smoke cigarettes, and I always feel like I’m letting myself down. Smoking kills you. Who wants to kill themselves? We’re all going to die, but it’s kind of like, why is that cool today? Why isn’t it cool to give back? That leaves a bad taste in people’s mouths but people loving watching people drive themselves into walls. I guess it’s because we all meet in the dirt.

MM Are you done turning your back on yourself?

OB [Laughs] Well, I’m not smoking anymore. I turned 30, and I said, “No more smoking!” Then I got so smashed at my birthday party.

Secret's out: Sparrow returns for 'Pirates' 3
    posted by Jas, 03/15/07
Pirates 3 cast talk about At World's End, plus new stills from USA Today.

"It would be hard to suspend the belief that Jack Sparrow isn't going to be back," says Orlando Bloom, who plays Will, Sparrow's romantic rival for Keira Knightley.

Director Gore Verbinski says the suspense will come from how Sparrow's friends rescue him from the afterlife. "As always, he has his own path in the madness," Verbinski says. "It's interesting what solitary confinement does to the brain. If his brain was sunbaked before, it's freeze-dried now." The story involves Will Turner (Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Knightley) teaming with the previously deceased bad-guy Capt. Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), who made a surprise appearance at the end of Dead Man's Chest.

They journey to 18th-century Shanghai to secure maps from Chinese pirate lord Sao Feng (Chow Yun-Fat) that will lead them to the ends of the earth, where ships plunge off the edge of the sea into the afterlife. Bloom says his too-good-to-be-true Will gets to have devious motives.

"The question is why do we need to have Jack Sparrow back? And that's revealed in this movie," Bloom says. "But I thought it would be cool for Will to be slightly darker. He's so good, but he wants to be bad." Verbinski says everyone gets to be bad this time. "There are betrayals on top of betrayals," he says. "There's a meeting of the pirate lords, and it's like a bad gathering of relatives at Thanksgiving, where everybody is pretending to get along. You can feel the psychosis. It's a fishbowl filled with sharks."

Naomie Harris, who plays the witch Tia Dalma, says she finally gets to leave her swamp because she has her own secrets to reveal. "In her own environment she's playful; in other environments, she's serious," Harris says. "She has a lot of powers, and she's out for herself."

    Pirates 3 trailer review
    posted by Jas, 03/14/07
Coming Soon has yet another review of Pirates 3 trailer shown at ShoWest, which also mentions that the trailer will be attached to Meet the Robinsons which opens in theatres on March 30.

Frankly, it was way too many amazing images and information to absorb and I don't have the memory, note-taking skills or pause button to really describe how amazing this trailer looked. Last week, there was a bit of leaked information about what was going to be in the trailer, and though some of the scenes were in there, this was cut together very differently so that some scenes were definitely not included.

It really looks like they've upped the ante from Dead Man's Chest if that's even possible, and I was blown away by some of the images of pirate ships sailing between icebergs, another of a ship sailing to the edge of a waterfall and a climactic scene of a number of ships being sucked into a giant whirlpool. The trailer revealed a few tidbits about the plot for the threequel, in that the movie will not only be about the search for Captain Jack Sparrow, but also about the Dutch East India Company led by Tom Hallander's Beckett, now teaming with Davy Jones (!), to rid the world of pirates, forcing Captain Jack Sparrow, Will and Elizabeth to team with Barbossa, and Chow Yun-Fat's Sao Fen to prevent the pirate way of life from being obliterated. As expected, there was a lot of stuff in the footage shown yesterday that wasn't in the trailer, though there was a more finished scene of Sparrow in a sword fight with Davy Jones atop the ship's rigging and there's a brief bit with Will asking Elizabeth to marry him in the middle of a big action scene and a gag in which Norrington says to Jack, "You're mad!", and then Jack saying "Of course I am. This wouldn't work if I wasn't" then him lighting a cannon which explodes, flying backwards and pulling Jack up into the air on the rigging. There were a lot more scenes that I'm probably forgetting, but I'm sure that Pirates fans will want to try to catch the trailer next Monday or when it's shown in front of Meet the Robinsons in a few weeks.

Pirates 3 is going to be epic - new trailer details
    posted by Jas, 03/13/07
A short Pirates 3 trailer was shown at ShoWest and someone who were at the convention has posted a review. Spoilers ahead

Out at ShoWest in Las Vegas I walked inside of the opening ceremony presentation the moment before the trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean 3 began, just perfectly in time. It was an experience to behold, as the screen was as large as the entire Broadway stage it was on and the projector was the most beautiful, brilliant picture I've ever seen (and I mean ever). Without further ado, here are a few details from the new trailer that I remember.

» Right in the middle of a fight on a ship, Orlando Bloom asks Keira Knightley “will you marry me?” upon which she replies about why he was asking now (in the middle of fighting).

» One of the final epic battles, as seen in the trailer, revolves (literally) around a huge whirlpool that forms in the middle of an ocean, where two ships, Davy Jones vs Johnny Depp, fight as they spin around. Tons of action scenes involving this.

» An awesome sword fight where three people, including Keira Knightley, are standing on a deck and people underneath them throw swords up through the slots and they catch them and start fighting.

» An awesome fight scene where Johnny Depp and Davy Jones are sword fighting one-on-one on the edge of a ship. This one is going to be amazing in the final film.

» Tia Dalma and Geoffrey Rush (aka Barbossa) are fairly prominent in the trailer, so it's no longer a plot reveal when Captain Barbossa appears in the trailer.

My response from the whole thing – Pirates of the Caribbean 3 is going to be EPIC. If you thought the $1 billion box office earnings last year were big, just wait until this May, when we've got Spider-Man 3, Shrek 3, and Pirates 3 all in one month. I can tell you this is going to be one intense battle. It's going to be Tobey Maquire one-on-one sword fighting Johnny Depp instead.

Everything in this trailer was just exciting and astounding. I was way more excited watching this trailer than watching the trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean 2. There were a lot more scenes within it, as it was a full 2 and a half minute trailer that will be fully unveiled early next week. However, I can confidently say that there are no worries for Disney – Pirates 3 is going to be an epic movie and have an epic opening. And this trailer will get you more excited than you've ever been.

And Coming Soon has another fan's report, spoilers ahead! stop reading now.

It would be very upsetting if they didn't say or show anything from Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, but being Disney's biggest movie of the summer, they obviously saved the best for last. After a similar presentation talking about the history and marketing of the franchise, which would include the already-seen "smoke" one-sheets and another campaign with the characters against a bright red background, the presenter said that the new trailer was being saved for the next morning's Opening Ceremony.

Instead, they had an even more impressive presentation that included many scenes from the trailer and a few scenes that might not make it, including the first bit in which Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow confronts two women with the fact that he can't lie to them and after sharing a few "truths" he's slapped by both. This was followed by a couple quick scenes including Chow Yun-Fat's Sao Fen proclaiming "Welcome to Singapore!" and a bit of raw footage of Depp interating with Sao Fenn, who also hits him. The scenes were interspersed with soundbites from Bruckheimer, Depp and Knightley, plus a number of funny gags, including one involving a pirate ship which was being rocked from one side to the other as everyone on deck ran from one side to the other. They also showed some of the pre-vis CGI for the climactic final battle between the two pirate camps, which seemed to include a battle between Capt. Jack Sparrow and Davy Jones high atop the ship's rigging. (Hopefully, we'll have more to write about after seeing the full trailer in the morning, though I expect some of this footage to have been exclusive to this presentation.)

Yet another review from Ain't It Cool, spoilers ahead!

Here are my impressions... firstly, the trailer kicked ass. Bruckheimer said that PIRATES 1 and 2 were ours d'ourves for the 3rd flick and the trailer does represent that. It begins much like the last film's trailer with the creepy little girl singing Yo-Ho Yo-Ho a Pirate's Life For Me and then we see footage from the end of DEAD MAN'S CHEST, namely Barbossa's reintroduction and the set-up for third film. The new footage begins with a wreck of a ship sailing through icy waters. The design is very asian-influenced and on board we see Barbossa, ice in his mustache and beard.

The next shot is of that ship heading towards a huge waterfall as Naomi Harris, the voodoo lady, narrates again about goin' "to dee ends ub dee urff…" We don't see how Captain Jack is rescued or saved, but our first look at Depp is onboard a ship, looking around at all the familiar faces from his previous crew and Kiera Knightley and Orlando Bloom.

Sparrow says, "Did no one save me just because they missed me?" And everybody kind of looks around guiltily, then the zombie monkey raises his hand. The main thrust of the trailer was to set up the goal of Lord Beckett to wipe out all pirates, so that his greedy and corrupt corporation can have complete control of the seas and that all the pirates have to band together to stop him. There are four groups, each from a different corner of the world, including a glimpse of Chow Yun Fat.

Then the big stuff hit, epic shots of fleets of pirate ships engaging an enemy, cannonballs ripping wood. I was a little worried that we didn't see any Davy Jones in the trailer, hoping they didn't just kind of throw his character and arc to the side, but then I caught a glimpse of him in a quick cut, Sparrow smacking him upside the head. Then I caught more than a glimpse of him.

This is my favorite shot from the trailer. The camera circles around Jack Sparrow and Davy Jones as they duel. The kicker is they are up in the rigging of one of the ships, standing face to face on the mast… probably the Black Pearl, but I didn't get a close enough look. I was more drawn to the fast and furious sword play. Looked great, like the best parts of the PHANTOM MENACE lightsaber duel with Maul and Obi-Wan. Maybe not as fancy, but definitely as furious.

The trailer ended with Jack Sparrow standing beside a cannon, holding a flame to the fuse as someone says, "Are you mad?" He replies, "If I wasn't then this probably wouldn't work," and ignites the fuse, firing the cannon, which somehow releases a rigging somewhere and the rope Sparrow was holding yanks him up and off the deck of the ship.

Big applause and Bruckheimer said that there would be a big event to unleash the trailer in 25 cities March 19th. I think you might be hearing a little more about that soon…

    and from IESB

Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End is looking amazing and so much better than the last. It truly has an epic feel and it doesn't appear to be relying on heavy CGI creature gimmicks. Chow Yun-Fat is bad ass and, of course, Johnny is genius with his delivery of those classic lines. This movie is sure to be pure gold.

AWE trailer will be released this month
    posted by Jas, 03/02/07
Terry Rossio has posted an update on the Wordplayer forum regarding the Pirates 3 trailer which will be released sometime in the first two weeks of March. The official website for P3 should be up around the same time the trailer is released. There's also a rumour that the trailer will premiere on TV in the US on March 19 during the premiere of Dancing with the Stars on ABC and Terry said that, "that seems like it could be right".

    - the name was briefly At Worlds End, then we argued that was really incorrect, and the final choice is At World's End.

    - The teaser trailer is finished. I've seen it. The focus has been on getting the film completed -- remember, it is only 10 months between release dates, with shooting in between. Impossible to accomplish on a film of this size. There was really no time to spend tweaking a trailer. They will announce a date for the worldwide release of the trailer, you will know when it is coming, it will be sometime in the first two weeks of March. The teaser trailer is not really 'late' by the way, it just seems that way because usually there would be a teaser trailer out by now. But there could be no teaser trailer for AWE because effects weren't finished, and they didn't want to tread on the heels of DMC.

    - the poster doesn't typicallly come out until near the ad campaign, which is sometime in early April.

    - yes, there are AWE bits on disk two of DMC, the point was to make a documentary, and since the films were shot at the same time, you can't help but have some AWE stuff show up, and no reason really to edit it out.

    - regarding the official website, it makes sense to me that it should open at the same time of the trailer, but nobody has told me anything. It might also make sense to just expand the DMC website.

    Regarding Pirates 4

There is no way to tell if there will be a fourth pirates film. It depends on how well the 3rd film does. And it depends on whether a worthy screenplay can be created, one that convinces the studio, and the various actors, directors, producers, that there should be a fourth movie. For example, there has been a desire and interest to make a 4th Indiana Jones picture for a long time, and a lot of false starts over the years. You really can't predict something like this until it comes together. There is no one person who can say, "Yes, there will be a fourth."
