'Bootstrap Blackcurrant' anyone? The company said yesterday (23 March) that it would release 'Caribbean Curse' and 'Bootstrap Blackcurrant' in cluster packs of four 250ml bottles with sport-cap. The packaging features the film's skull and crossbones logo along with a close-up of Johnny Depp as one of the pirates. The drink is targeted at both boys and girls aged between six and eleven years old. The drinks will be available from 24 April, initially in Waitrose supermarkets, and will have an on-pack promotion offering a free film poster in return for four tokens. "We expect Dead Man's Chest to be the film franchise of the year," said Richard Cooke, Calypso's sales and marketing director. Calypso's Pirates of the Caribbean no-added-sugar juice drinks are supplied in outers of six cluster packs of four 250ml clear PET bottles with re-sealable sports caps at a recommended retail price of GBP1.39 (US$2.41).
Possible Orlando's next movie? MUMBAI (Reuters) - Irvin Kershner, the Hollywood director of Star Wars and James Bond fame, is scouting for actors in India where he will shoot large parts of his next film. "The Princess and Wizard' will be "a children's film that adults will also like," Kershner said during a stopover this week in Mumbai where he met the Bollywood set. Kershner, the director of such blockbusters as "The Empire Strikes Back," "Never Say Never Again" and "Robocop-II," is looking for the female lead for his new film, and he says Bollywood is where he will find her. "Indian women are of extraordinary beauty," the 83-year-old director said, adding several other key roles in the film will be played by Indian actors. He did not elaborate on his new movie's storyline. The film's producer Arjun Daluvoy said they were considering Hollywood heartthrobs Johnny Depp or Orlando Bloom for the male lead. Production begins in October and the film will span India, the United Kingdom, Egypt and the United States. Kershner will travel to the western desert state of Rajasthan scouting for locales. Some filming will also be done in a studio in southern India. Kershner said he was contemplating putting some of Bollywood's exuberant song and dance sequences in his new film. Bollywood beauties like Aishwarya Rai and Mallika Sherawat are gaining recognition in Hollywood and starring in international productions. Mallika is too sexy, I say get Preity Zinta, since it's a children's film, she's perfect for the role in my opinion and would look great opposite Orlando :-) but then again the movie is about princess and wizard so she might look too modern so Ash would be a good choice but she might not be available, apparently Will Smith has signed her for one of his upcoming movies which starts shooting in July but she's also committed to do 'Jodha Akbar' at the same time opposite Bollywood actor, Hrithik Roshan which I'm really looking forward to. I guess we have to wait and see. Oh and please take this report with a grain of salt until there's official word or press release.
POTC 2 preview This month's heavyweight is Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightley reprise their roles, with a special appearance by Keith Richards who was Depp's inspiration for his character. Support cast includes Bill Nighy, who seems to be in every second film made in the past year. In fact, he is in every second film.
Orlando Bloom in rubber Sorry, ladies, but you just missed a treat — Orlando Bloom in rubber! With a mask! The star of Lord of the Rings, Troy and a few episodes of Casualty enjoyed scuba diving recently at Cabrits (www.cabritsdive.com), off the island of Dominica, while filming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, due for release in July. "He looked really good in a wet suit," sighed one female British diver, "but way too young for me."

Movie stuntman seriously injured A freak accident at the production site of Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean II and III" sequels, located at Gold Rock Creek in East Grand Bahama, resulted in a movie stuntman being detained at the Rand Memorial Hospital with some serious injuries to his facial area. Police say Thomas Lee Dupont, 35, of Valencia, California, was participating in the filming of a scene inside the huge collier tank, when the force of waves created in the tank, slammed him head first into a cannon that was a part of the set. Mr. Dupont was knocked unconscious by the impact and sustained very serious injuries to his face. He was transported to the Rand Memorial Hospital, where he received emergency medical treatment, before being airlifted in serious condition to a Florida-based hospital.

Orlando at San Remo Festival (ANSA) - Sanremo, March 1 - British screen idol Orlando Bloom is to make a guest appearance at Italy's top song festival as part of efforts to restore some of the event's flagging appeal for TV viewers . The English actor, who shot to fame as the elf prince Legolas in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy, will arrive on stage at the Sanremo festival on Friday evening, organisers said. The announcement came after viewing figures showed that the song contest's share of the television audience was about 10% lower than last year on both the first two nights . Every year the Sanremo event, a five-day extravaganza of Italian pop and glitz, is the focus of relentless attention from the media and viewing figures are scrutinised mercilessly . Bloom, 31, an idol for teenagers all over Europe and America, is an almost guaranteed magnet for trendy young Italians who often accuse Sanremo of being staid and old-fashioned. As well being frequently declared one of the world's most desirable men in women's magazines, he is also one of the busiest and most sought-after actors in the film industry. The star has been seen most recently on Italian cinema screens in Cameron Crowe's Elizabeth Town, a film in which he is a suicidal but dashing inventor who falls in love with a chirpy air hostess. Sanremo organisers did not reveal how much they are paying Bloom for his presence on the penultimate night. -- Full report
Haven release delayed That loud shriek you heard recently was a million teenage girls rejoicing over their successful efforts to land a release date for "Haven," the long-delayed Orlando Bloom drama that finally hits theaters April 21. "That's cool," Bloom said of fan efforts that included an online petition demanding to finally see the film that first screened at the Toronto Film Festival in 2004. "I love it. That's awesome." Reflecting on the delay, Bloom admitted his frustration while insisting that it's an unfortunate side effect of his chosen career. "It's a part of life, you know. Especially part of the movie business; you just have to expect it. I'm used to making big movies that get made, sold and open straight away. But this was a real labor of love, and the director took it to Toronto, recut the movie, and it's taken a little while to get going. But it's in good shape." Co-starring Bill Paxton and Zoe Saldana, "Haven" tells a "Traffic"-like tale involving an unscrupulous businessman (Paxton) and the two lovers (Bloom and Saldana) who get caught up in his web of violence. ...

Filming of Pirates Wraps Up In GB The filming of the highly-anticipated Pirates of the Caribbean sequel, Deadman's Chest, is wrapping up in Grand Bahama, according to Michael Singer, unit publicist and press liaison officer for the production. "We are finishing mid-week [and] this completes our location photography in the Caribbean region," Mr. Singer told The Bahama Journal on Monday. Pirates of the Caribbean II and III were shot at The Bahamas Films Studios at Gold Rock Creek in East Grand Bahama. Mr. Singer said while there were only a few days left of filming in Grand Bahama, production continues on Pirate of the Caribbean III. "We will be doing more filming on Pirates of the Caribbean III beginning again in late summer," he said. "That will be mostly local production in the Los Angeles area." Mr. Singer said while the majority of the crew will be leaving the island, some members of the production team will need to stay behind to "do wrap-up work." "A production of this size will always need a little time to wrap things up and to pack and to close down production properly," he explained. Pirates of the Caribbean II is schedule to begin showing on July 7, 2006 in the United States and the untitled sequel, Caribbean III, will be released sometime in 2007. -- Full report
