Ready to set sail One amazing set-piece sees Will and Sparrow having a three-way sword fight on a massive water wheel that has snapped off its frame and is rolling down a hill. Orlando said: "That was an absolute nightmare to shoot. I was harnessed in that thing and because gravity pushes you one way as it's rolling the other way, you're like, Whoa!' Then as the wheel goes back up you're fighting gravity to keep in the same direction. It was very uncomfortable." And while they made the film in the Caribbean, Orlando is quick to claim it wasn't a picnic and the film-makers got their money's worth. "Soaking wet, six in the morning with a flaming sword in your hand," he pointed out. "That's worth every penny. "They're getting their money's worth, believe me. It's hard work being wet and cold, it doesn't matter if you're in the Caribbean. Those rain machines pump out cold water. Big drops. And if it was at night time it was really freezing. All the wet suits in the world can't stop that feeling." While Orlando enjoyed seeing Johnny Depp getting completely soaked when a giant squid squirts all over him, he revealed that the character-based scenes with Will's dad Bootstrap Bill, played by Stellan Skarsgaard, are what makes the follow-up to The Curse of the Black Pearl something special. Orlando said: "A lot of the stuff that I got to do with Will in the movie was great because it's a father/son dynamic. "Will's real inner battle is choosing between the girl or his father. "As a young man, you have to have a relationship with your father, and Will knows that and he knows that is what he is fighting for." So how do he and Johnny get on? Orlando laughed: "We kiss and cuddle. Every now and again he'll say, 'Orly, can I have a quick kiss? I miss you.' I'm like, 'Johnny, really?' "But thankfully there are no tongues. I'm joking, of course." -- Full interview

POTC 2 LA premire report The doors open again and a good-looking man comes in. Hooray! Sadly, it is Orlando Bloom rather than Johnny Depp. "What was it like working with Johnny Depp?" somebody asks. "Weird. He's a strange man. Peculiar," Bloom laughs. "No. He is a fantastic guy and great actor. He is really brave with his choices. There were a lot of questions about the role he was turning in and he stuck to his guns and I really admire that." Bloom has a divisive effect on audiences. Few other actors have such an enthusiastic fan-base of teenage girls. Most everybody else, however, finds him somewhat bland. Somebody in the press pack dares to suggest that his last two films - Ridley Scott's overblown Kingdom of Heaven and Cameron Crowe's truly frightful Elizabethtown - might have been something of a disappointment. The questioner is not a teenage girl. "I loved both those films," Bloom says, without visibly bristling. "Look. To work with those two great directors in the space of a year was just amazing. I wouldn't change anything." Orlando comes across as a lovely fellow. So much so that everybody forgives him for not being Johnny Depp. -- Full report

Swarmed by teenagers and grandmothers Orlando Bloom doesn't mind a beer, loves hanging out at his local in London and has plenty of mates. The problem he has is sitting incognito at the pub for a few hours. Teenage girls camp outside his hotels when they track his location down while grandmothers send him love letters. So, with all demographics covered, when his mates say they're off to the pub for a drink, Bloom gets a little nervous. "Ahhhhh ... no," Bloom answers when asked during an interview in Los Angeles recently if he can still go down to the pub in London for a quiet beer. There are times, however, his thirst leads him to take a chance. "I can do it sometimes," Bloom, with a little extra thought, adds. Apparently there are a few tricks and lines a star must have ready. "To be honest, most people when you do that, aren't expecting to see you in the pub," Bloom said. "So, if somebody came up to me and said 'Are you Orlando Bloom?' I say 'No, I get that all the time. People always ask me that'." Dead Man's Chest opens in Australia on July 6 while Pirates of the Caribbean 3 is set for release next year. "It was beautiful," he said of the filming locations, which included The Bahamas, Dominica, St Vincent and the Grenadines. "Sometimes it was deathly boring. Other times it was fantastically fun. There were a lot of dice games," Bloom said. "A lot of card games and reading. But, nothing beats being home in London", Bloom said. When Bloom sat down for this interview in Los Angeles, he had just flown in after a few months relaxing in London. "I've just came back from England," Bloom says with a smile. "I was there for a while and it was beautiful. "To see London go from autumn, spring to summer is just beautiful." Bloom has also been catching up with Bosworth, who plays Lois Lane in Superman Returns. Superman Returns opens this week, with Dead Man's Chest following a week later, but Bloom says there is no competition between the two, who have been in an on-again, off-again relationship for three years. "No, we're both really happy to be a part of two films we're both really proud of," he said, denying the couple had any bets going on which film would top the box office. The pair will soon spend plenty of time together when they star in Seasons of Dust, a film he describes as "Days of Heaven, meets Badlands, meets Bonnie and Clyde". Bloom is not concerned about following in the footsteps of former lovebirds, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, who shot two disastrous films together, Gigli and Jersey Girl, although Bloom admitted he "never thought he'd do" a film with Bosworth. The collaboration is also a surprise because Bloom and Bosworth rarely speak about their relationship in public. "I feel really good about it," Bloom said. "I love the script. "It's a very comfortable environment." Bloom, with the fame, career and beautiful girlfriend, not surprisingly is looking forward to the future. His only problem appears to be dodging the fans and spending a few hours of drinking time with his mates at the pub. "I thank my lucky stars all the time," he said.

Bruckheimer Dishes Pirates DVD Deets "There's a lot of phenomenal stuff that we filmed that is not in the movie. That dice game - there's some additional footage on that dice game that's fantastic that will be in the DVD. There's a lot of stuff like that." When asked how much of this material will require an expanded slate of special effects, Bruckheimer responded, "they're already completed. Gore [Verbinski, the director, is] getting time to go into the editing room and kind of go through all that material and start putting it together. [There is] some wonderful stuff on Cannibal Island with Johnny. Some very funny things that you just couldn't put everything in." Bruckheimer also said that the disc would feature a bounty of behind-the-scenes footage. "Tons of it," the producer indicated. "We had a guy there most of the time. I think we gave the assistant cameramen some video cameras or digital cameras that they were filming stuff, so there's a lot of material available." He also revealed that they commissioned an actual documentary filmmaker to chronicle the production. "There was a documentarian that was following Gore around during the pre-production and the script phase of it, which has got some wonderful stuff. And decisions that were made on building the ships - not building the ships, [but] where to build things, what to do, the twists and turns in the script." -- full report

Pirates 3 Production Details Director Gore Verbinski has only recently completed his work on the first Pirates of the Caribbean sequel, subtitled Dead Man's Chest, in time for the July 7th release. With the forthcoming promotional tour for the domestic and international releases this summer, Verbinski and his Pirates cast and crew won't see much of a break, heading back to finish production on part 3 this August. "We are actually not going back [to the Bahamas]," says Verbinski. "We have shooting that is going to be off the coast of California. A little bit of water, but a lot of stage work left." Verbinski says they have "about 70 days" of work left on the film, which was partially completed during work on Dead Man's Chest." Portions of the third film were completed during production on Dead Man's Chest, particularly the sequences that took advantage of the same sets. The initial plan was to finish both films at once, but production problems have forced the cast and crew to return to finish the film. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer comments: "Storms, hurricanes, sick actors. Little things that - some mechanical problems that we had stretched it out, so we had to cut our shooting short a little bit, which in a way was good because it gave us more time to prepare and edit the second movie."
Q&A: Orlando Bloom
Naomie Harris on Pirates While we don't know that much about her character in "Dead Man's Chest," Harris says not to worry because it will all become clear in the third "Pirates." "There is a huge back-story but it's all revealed in P3. You know she has her own reasons for doing what she's doing in P2. P2 is just an introduction for the character and in P3 then she's throughout, she actually goes on a journey with all the different characters... I had to do 2 without knowing what was happening in 3. But Gore did brief me, which was a little hard because there is so much that happens with her in P3."
It's official, Orlando will be in Season's of Dust British heartthrob Orlando Bloom has forged an impressive career by traveling the seven seas ("Pirates of the Caribbean"), assisting a fellowship's quest through Middle Earth ("The Lord of the Rings") and battling renegades in Somalia ("Black Hawk Down"). Now the 29-year-old hunk is making plans to embark on what could be his most hazardous mission yet: working with his girlfriend. Bloom has signed on to "Seasons of Dust," the suddenly high-profile Tim Blake Nelson project that recently attracted Kate Bosworth too (see " 'Superman' Stars' Game Plan: Hit Up Vegas, Go Indie, Help Santa Manage Elves"). Bloom and the "Superman Returns" beauty have been involved in a tabloid-fueling on-again, off-again relationship for more than four years. "[Nelson's] a fantastic actor and director," Bloom said of the "Syriana" character actor and director of the obscure Holocaust flick "The Grey Zone." "He's going to direct this film called 'Seasons of Dust,' which is a really cool movie, set in 1935 in the Dust Bowl in Oklahoma City. It's set during the Depression and drought. That was a real tough time in American history. It's a great piece of writing, and I'm excited to do it," Bloom added. "I play a guy who steals from bootleggers; he's kind of a rogue." Bosworth has described the project as a hybrid of "The Grapes of Wrath," "Badlands" and "Bonnie and Clyde." With the latter two revolving around outlaw lovers on the run from authorities, their characters can be expected to be as seedy as they are steamy. Bosworth and Nelson previously collaborated on the homicide-and-porn drama "Wonderland," and the actress has expressed a desire to get equally gritty with "Dust." "It's not a sword movie," laughed Bloom, acknowledging an excitement to sidestep his typecasting as a swords-and-sandals epic actor. "It's Oklahoma City. It's the South. It's really cool. It's kind of like a cowboy movie really," the actor added. "[Nelson] has awesome style, and he's a great director and fantastic writer." "It's kind of like a cowboy movie really," the actor added. "[Nelson] has awesome style, and he's a great director and fantastic writer." Oscar-winning filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen, who directed Nelson in the Depression-South comedy "O Brother, Where Art Thou?," will serve as executive producers on the project. "Seasons of Dust" is expected to begin filming later this year, for a 2007 release.

Welcome aboard. The Black Pearl that is. Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean" are back and so is Orlando Bloom as Will Turner, the lovable pirate who gets caught up in Captain Jack Sparrow's (Johnny Depp) scheming, but beguiling high sea adventures. The charismatic and charming Bloom sat down with ComingSoon.net to talk about "Dead Man's Chest," as well as the third film that was being shot at the same time and whether Haven is ever going to be released.

Unlocking the secrets of Davy Jones
'Pirates' In Bloom It didn't take long after the premiere of "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," for Orlando Bloom to realize he'd soon be sailing the seven seas again. "I remember being at Disneyland with Johnny [Depp] and we're all sitting around with [producer Jerry Bruckheimer], and we're saying, 'Let's do a pirate movie for the rest of our lives,'" Bloom recalls of the genesis of "Dead Man's Chest." "What's cool [is that] they took what was a one-off movie, but because of what was already there in terms of character development, they were able to really take it somewhere." That includes a whole new world of possibilities for Bloom's character, Will Turner, including an introduction to his father, pirate Bootstrap Bill, played by Stellan Skarsgård. Meeting his on-screen dad also allowed Turner to step aboard the stunning pirate ship, the Flying Dutchman, captained by Jack Sparrow's nemesis, an amazing CGI animated Davy Jones. It's just another fantastical world for Bloom to explore after being a part of the "Pirates" films, last summer's "Kingdom of Heaven" and "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. "I play characters that are larger than life," Bloom says. "Getting to play a knight, an elf, a prince, a soldier. I've really lived out all of my childhood fantasies." Bloom admits he wouldn't mind spending more time in the real world, as he did in Cameron Crowe's "Elizabethtown" last fall, but he's learning some good tricks as he goes from one sword-swinging action-adventure to another. "Woo hoo! I didn't hurt myself this time," the 27-year-old actor says. "I'm a lot more conscious about not getting injured now than I was before." Once you consider that Bloom ends up spending a considerable amount of time swashbuckling on top of a moving, 20-foot-high wooden wheel and was suspended 30 feet up on the masts of numerous ships, it's clear his enthusiasm is not of the sarcastic variety. Fame has also dealt the actor the perils of becoming a heartthrob to very young girls. Most actors would be doing anything they could to distance themselves from such teenybopper obsessions. Bloom has a different take, even as he currently romances actress Kate Bosworth in private. "Fight them off? Don't be crazy," he says incredulously. "What do I look like? Bring 'em on!"

In the film, Janey (Bosworth) takes refuge with a farm family after grandfather's suicide. But when the son tries to rape her, she injures him badly. Not knowing if he is alive or dead, Janey flees, and ultimately takes up with Ricky (Bloom), a dashing crook who is also on the lam. With the law and two hired hit-men hot on their trailer, Janey and Ricky engage in a frantic cross-country odyssey, trying to stay one step ahead of their determined pursuers. Production is scheduled to begin mid-July in Oklahoma and New Mexico.

"Pirates" premiere reveals more surprises Disneyland's Main Street was packed with onlookers as the stars of "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" arrived at the film's premiere Saturday. Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley greeted hordes of fans as they made their way down Main Street to the pirate ship waiting to take them to Tom Sawyer's Island premiere. Other stars attending the premiere included Kate Bosworth and Calif. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger with first lady Maria Shriver. Also on hand were the creative minds behind the "Pirates" sequel, who revealed the latest news on the third film opening next year. The title of the next film, due for a Memorial Day opening, will likely be "At World's End" and will wrap up the story from the cliffhanger ending in "Dead Man's Chest," screenwriter Terry Rossio said. "It's the pirates' last stand; the end of an era," Rossio said. The third film will also introduce Chow Yun-Fat as a Chinese pirate. All of the Caribbean scenes for the film have been shot, while interior scenes will be shot later this summer. Disney chairman Dick Cook also revealed that new animatronic figures of Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom would be added to the already-renovated Pirates of the Caribbean ride next year.

Keith Richards in POTC 3 Jerry Bruckheimer, action movie guru producer, said this about Keith Richards, "I think we worked out some dates, as long as he doesn't fall out of any more trees..." Writers Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio had this to say on the subject, "Keith Richards was never intended to be in Pirates 2. He is supposed to be in 3. Johnny wanted him in but there was just no room in the story in 2. But there is in 3. According to the press, he's in he's out he's in he's out, I honestly think people made that up." Will he portray Jack's Dad? "We are not going to confirm that, that's indeterminate. We want to protect the story until the audience sees it. That gives ourselves room to make improvements." Director Gore Verbinski say the following regarding Richards being Jack Sparrow's father, "I don't want to give it away but he will be in the third. We haven't filmed the Keith Richard part yet." Will he be his father? "I don't want to give anything away, it's open to interpretation."

Interview with Orlando Orlando Bloom, often private and relatively shy, walks into a Beverly Hills hotel room more buoyant than usual. Perhaps he has World Cup soccer on his mind, rather than pirates and stardom. "England's going to win, right?" he says, too loudly for comfort. But Bloom has reason to be pleased with himself, football madness aside. He recently escorted girlfriend Kate Bosworth to her Superman Returns premiere, giving her and his closest competition high marks. "It's great and I'm very proud of her." Then when not promoting another blockbuster, the young Brit is relaxing during this Northern hemisphere summer. "I've been in London, hanging out, catching up with friends. It's been good, beautiful weather and watching the football." Yet as upbeat and relaxed as he is, Bloom is setting sail opposite heavyweights Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley in a second instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean, laughingly admitting that it was easy for the actor to rediscover his inner Pirate once again. "This time my character goes from being a straight-laced kind of upright stick in the mud to becoming more of a bit of a pirate in this one, thankfully. It was kind of like discovering my inner pirate for the first time in a way." In the latest Pirates adventure, Captain Jack Sparrow discovers he owes a blood debt to the legendary Davey Jones, Captain of the ghostly Flying Dutchman. With time running out, Jack must find a way out of his debt or else be doomed to eternal damnation and servitude in the afterlife. Making matters worse, Sparrow's problems manage to interfere with the wedding plans of Bloom's Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann [Knightley], who are forced to join Jack on yet another one of his misadventures. Bloom says that playing a pirate is yet another way to fulfil the actor's childhood fantasies. "My whole career has been fulfilling my childhood fantasies, playing characters that are larger than life, getting to play a knight, an elf, a prince, and a soldier. I've really lived out all of my childhood fantasies, so "Pirates" wasn't like living out another childhood fantasy, but just a great opportunity to work with some great people (like) Johnny Depp. That was a big draw, having always admired him as a young actor. When I signed up to do the first one it was a matter of wanting to be on set with somebody like him, to see how he handles himself, to see how he goes about it, which was a real privilege." Bloom is currently finishing the third Pirates movie, and doesn't feel quite so exhausted shooting both films back to back. "It's a real ensemble movie so it's not like I'm on the whole time, but it was a challenge in a way because you've got the arc of two movies to cover. You can shoot a scene from the second movie in the morning and the third movie in the afternoon and trying to remember where your character is emotionally at that point in the movie can be a bit more challenging. You just have to play the truth of the moment and thankfully we got great writers to create great stories and characters and develop it so it's not just one note." It is not Bloom's first experience making more than one film as part of a series, simultaneously. There was, after all, that miniscule trilogy called Lord of the Rings, but Bloom is hesitant to draw too many comparisons between the two experiences. "Lord of the Rings was my first experience making movies and at the time, I had no ideas how movies were done. I thought that's the way they're done, so in a way, I had nothing to compare it to. But you still have to think about where in that development you are and sometimes, when you shoot one movie, you have to think about that anyway, but that's one movie. With two, a lot more time passes, and a lot more development happens, so you've got to keep jumping back and forward doing that kind of dance. The great thing about working on something like "Pirates," is that you don't really know what to expect. Going to see it, it's like a feast for the eyes." In this Pirates movie, audiences will see a few hair raising moments, but the actor won't be drawn on whether there'll be equally frenzied moments in next year's Pirates conclusion. "How can they top this one? They seem to keep topping it. I'm trying to remember the third one, because we're still shooting." As to what is beyond Pirates 3, Bloom is keeping his options open. "There are a couple of things I'm looking at, but one of them I'm not sure if I'm going to be doing in the next couple of months or at the end of Pirates (3). It just depends on scheduling." Bloom's career has skyrocketed, and with success, comes the inevitability of fame and tabloid reporting on his every movie. And the actor admits he hasn't reacted so well to the intrusions into his private life. "Terribly and awfully, if the truth be known. You tell me. How does it look from the outside? I can tell you it's terrifying on the inside." He smilingly adds that hides out from the paparazzi in "a couple of caves. I like to bury myself in them and stay right out of the limelight. It's a process, man." Yet pausing reflectively, he concedes that "I wouldn't change it, because I love to do what I do." Even if that means still fighting off teenage girls. "Bring 'em on! Fight them off? Don't be crazy. What do I look like?" And for more of Orlando, the director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven hits DVD shelves this month, and that alone, makes the actor's day. "I say go out and buy the long version, mate. I'm so happy to have been a part of that process and I would go straight back into the desert in a ton of chain mail for Ridley any day of the week. He's an amazing director and I can't wait to see the long version."

New LOTR DVD out on Aug 29 Three "The Lord of the Rings Limited Edition" sets, one for each movie, will roll out August 29. Each two-disc set will include the original theatrical and the extended versions of the film, along with Costa Botes' feature-length documentary on each film's creation. New to DVD are the documentaries, in which director in which director Peter Jackson and his crew gave Botes full access to the set for hours of behind-the-scenes footage. Except for the first documentary's screening at the New Zealand Film Festival, none of the three video production diaries have been seen anywhere, Lasorsa said. "New Line has owned these documentaries and waited to make them available to the general public," Lasorsa said. "The style of these documentaries is quite different from the documentaries on the extended-edition DVDs. These are more organic, and had they come out sooner people might have been confused." While first-time buyers might be intrigued by the two versions of the film, ardent "Rings" fans who already own the two previous DVD releases might be enticed to buy a third just for the documentaries. -- Full details

A 'Pirates' surprise for Johnny Depp Well then, Johnny might want to check out the competition. "Superman Returns" opens on Wednesday, nine days before "Pirates." Johnny's co-star Orlando Bloom has see it since his girlfriend Kate Bosworth is Lois Lane. "How do you think she did as Lois Lane?" Maria asked Orlando during a recent interview. "Fantastic," he said. "Do you guys think you have stiff competition with 'Superman?'" Maria asked. "I hope that it really rocks the house, because I think it's important, " Orlando explained. "Any of those big summer blockbuster movies, if they don't see something and it's really great, if they're let down in any way then they kind of lose faith in the movies and then, you know, that just affects the business."

It's official, Keith Richards will be in Pirates 3 It's official: Rolling Stone Keith Richards will be in the next Pirates of the Caribbean sequel, due out in summer 2007. But the when, how and what of his cameo role are still under discussion. "Hopefully, he won't fall out of any more trees," producer Jerry Bruckheimer said yesterday, referring to Richards's palm tree mishap a few weeks ago that injured his brain, requiring surgery and weeks of recuperation. Richards will probably film his Pirates 3 role in August, during a break from the current Stones tour, which has been delayed and rescheduled owing to his accident. Johnny Depp had wanted Richards to play his father in the second Pirates film, and said so during a Toronto visit last September. But that is now being dismissed as "Internet and press speculation," according to co-screenwriter Terry Rossio, because Richards was always planned for part three, not part two. And it's not a sure thing if he'll be playing the father of Depp's character, Capt. Jack Sparrow, even though Depp modelled his performance on Richards. Director Gore Verbinski said with a wink that Richards' role would be "open to interpretation." All he has to do is show up healthy for the gig.

Orlando Bloom talks: It's great fun to go to work everyday on Pirates When he was at drama school, Orlando Bloom never quite imagined himself in action adventure movies. As he notes with a smile, it's funny how things turn out. His first major project was playing Legolas the elf in Peter Jackson's award winning Lord of the Rings trilogy and recently, he starred in Ridley Scott's action epic, Kingdom of Heaven. And let's not forget playing Will Turner in Pirates of the Caribbean. How could we? Along with Johnny Depp as the lovable rogue Jack Sparrow and Keira Knightley, as Elizabeth Swann the governor's daughter who falls for Will, Orlando obviously, and understandably, holds the first movie in high esteem. “Oh we had a fabulous time making it,” he says. “Lovely people, fantastic locations and a great director. It was one of the best professional experiences I've ever had.” And so it's easy to understand why he was keen to repeat the experience on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, and Pirates 3, which have been filmed, virtually, back to back. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski have reunited their key creative team - cast, writers, crew - and added some new talent - Bill Nighy plays Davy Jones, the underworld captor of sea faring souls - and Bloom couldn't be happier to be back. “I really enjoy doing it,” he says. “I get to work with you know Johnny and Gore Verbinski and all these great talents. It's amazing because it's a chance for me to continue to learn my craft from some more experienced actors.” Orlando admits that he never dreamed that he would be making quite so many action movies. But one of the many benefits is that his sword fighting technique gets better and better. “I used to have to rehearse for weeks and weeks in advance but now I can have like three or four sessions with the stunt guys and I can pick it up much quicker which is a bonus,” he says. “I find myself in all these action adventure movies and they are fantastic but I never thought I would be doing so many of them. But I have to say I really love them. It's great fun to go to work everyday on Pirates and it `s got the same kind of kinetic energy as the first one, only there's even more.” Orlando knew better than most that filming two sequels virtually back to back would be a rollercoaster ride and a supreme challenge for all concerned. There was a two-month hiatus last year and another break whilst Verbinski edited Dead Man's Chest ready for release this summer. He spent almost two years in New Zealand making Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy and Pirates 2 and 3 was, in some ways at least, a similar experience. "I am reminded of the experience on Rings where it was that feeling of a huge steam train and everyone is just grabbing hold of it, trying to get a ride and letting is blow out of steam a bit,” he says. “But at the same time that madness, that crazy kind of wild beast that is running away from you is what gives it that energy and excitement and it makes the tension that much more palpable.” Born in Canterbury, England 29 years ago, Orlando has enjoyed a remarkable career since Lord of the Rings enjoyed phenomenal box office and critical success. He played Paris opposite Brad Pitt in Troy, a milkman turned boxer in the small budget British comedy The Calcium Kid, was reunited with Ridley Scott for the starring role in Kingdom of Heaven - they had previously worked together on Black Hawk Down - and recently, played opposite Kirsten Dunst in Cameron Crowe's romantic comedy Elizabethtown. This interview was conducted during a break from filming on the Universal Studios sound stage in Hollywood.

Depp thoughts Co-star Bloom said Depp told him during the making of the first Pirates film that he shouldn't listen to what people declare to be success or failure, when it comes to making artistic choices. "He said, `I made a career out of making movies that are considered to be failures,'" repeated Bloom. Depp laughed when told of Bloom's remark. And he agreed with it. He'd rather have fun risking failure than be bored by going for certain success. And yet he's dangerously close to being reliable with this franchise, which is going to do extremely well, no matter what movie critics might say. -- Full interview

Bloom loves Keira's kisses
Pirates of the Caribbean hunk Orlando Bloom says his co-star Keira Knightley is a great kisser.
The actor smooches with the British screen beauty in the latest installment of the Pirates trilogy and admits he was blown away with her smooching skills. He told Top Of The Pops magazine: "She's a great kisser and a lovely, and very funny, person. She's absolutely gorgeous." Despite Orlando's gushing praise for Keira's kissing technique, he admits he did find it "peculiar" locking lips with the brunette star. He added: "Kissing scenes are a bit peculiar. It's like you play at it."

No screen tests for 'Pirates' sequel
Disney has decided not to hold any research screenings of 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest' mainly because the ending cannot be changed even if the audiences do not like it. Disney spokesperson said: 'We didn't think we could gain anything by research screenings,' pagesix.com reported. The film, to be released in July, is a sequel to 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the black Pearl' and will be followed by another sequel next summer. The spokesperson added: 'We couldn't really change the plot since it leads into the third film.'
Zombie star gets ugly for Depp and his Pirates
28 Days Later star Naomie Harris is challenging fans of the cult zombie film to recognise her in the Pirates of the Caribbean sequel Dead Man's Chest - because she plays an ugly witch. The British beauty jumped at the chance to get ugly in the new movie, and loves the way director Gore Verbinski made her look. She says, "I feel it's really liberating to play someone who's not pretty. In Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, I have a really great role. "She's kind of an older witch doctor with black lips, rotten teeth, and dirty hair." Harris is now desperate to star in a period drama after writing a dissertation on black people in 18th century England at university. She says, "I've always loved Jane Austen novels... so I'd love to do a period drama - something where I can wear corsets."

Johnny Depp interview in Newsweek
Returning director Gore Verbinski, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and team have cranked up the action this time around. One huge set piece includes an elaborate three-way sword fight on a massive water wheel that has snapped off its frame and is rolling at top speed through the jungle. ("It's those moments when you realize how absurd your job is," Depp says. "It's great fun, but it was a bastard to shoot.") Luckily, they've also given Depp plenty of playtime, too. Even more than in the first film, Depp's exaggerated expressions and unexpected line deliveries turn "cute" moments into hilarious ones. At one point, Elizabeth tells Jack, "You're a good man." Depp replies, sloppily, under his breath, "All evidence to the contrary."
Sitting in a bungalow at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, Depp flashes a bit of Captain Jack every time he opens his mouth. Those gold pirate teeth are bonded onto his own. With the shoot for the third "Pirates" resuming in August, Depp figured it was just easier to keep them. "They don't come off until the ride stops," he says, and smiles. "It's a horrible process. I didn't want to go through yanking them off and putting them back on. And it leaves some residue of the character behind."
It was Depp's desire to make a movie for his kids that led him to "Pirates." In a visit to the Disney lot about five years ago, he mentioned to studio chairman Dick Cook that he'd been watching a lot of Disney movies with his daughter, loved them and was hoping to voice a character in a Pixar movie. Cook mentioned that the studio was developing a movie based on the theme-park ride "Pirates of the Caribbean." "And he got very excited," Cook recalls. "He said, 'Like a real pirate movie? With swords?' And I said, 'Yeah—with swords.' And he said, 'I'm in'."
As is now well known to "Pirates" fans, studio executives were nonplused when they began to see the footage of Depp in character. "The studio was, like, 'Is he gay? Is he drunk? We don't know what he's doing!'" says producer Bruckheimer. "It took a little while to calm everybody down." Depp's not ready to let go of Captain Jack just yet. "He's a blast to play," he says. "I'll be in a deep, dark depression saying goodbye to him." He laughs. "I'll keep the costume and just prance around the house, entertain the kids." Or the rest of the world. "Maybe 'Pirates 4, 5 and 6'," he says. "If they had a good script, why not? I mean, at a certain point, the madness must stop, but for the moment, I can't saythat he's done." -- Full interview
