Orlando talks about Extras You'd think it would be easy to be confident about your appeal if you're Orlando Bloom, but on the upcoming season of Ricky Gervais' "Extras," the long-haired heartthrob from the "Lord of the Rings" and "Pirates of the Caribbean" films shows his insecure side. "I'm a total bastard [in 'Extras']," says Bloom in an interview to promote his latest film "Haven." "I play a guy who just rips the s**t out of Johnny Depp. I sort of play like a schoolboy bastard version of myself where I'm so jealous of Johnny." In the critically acclaimed show by the creator of "The Office," Gervais plays struggling background actor Andy Millman, who just wants to land a speaking role that will launch him into stardom, but doesn't have much luck because of his lousy agent Darren Lamb (co-creator Stephen Merchant). Fellow extra Maggie Jacobs (Ashley Jensen) is content with her limited job, since it gives her plenty of time to pursue men on set. "And this girl Maggie is not interested in me," Bloom adds with a laugh. "Extras" is known for its send-up of well-known actors playing themselves on the set of fictional movies and TV shoes. Last season, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Stiller and Kate Winslet were among the big names who were happy to tarnish their image in the name of comedy. This coming season, the proposed A-list guest stars include "X-Men" star Ian McKellen, musician David Bowie and "Harry Potter" actor Daniel Radcliffe, all who encounter Andy's character on his road to success. "I can't tell you any more than that, but it's funny," says Bloom. "I don't think I'm that funny, but the series is really funny. The rest of it, the way it's developed, it's really great. He's fantastic, Ricky, and Stephen Merchant, they both are. It was fun as all hell." In real life, Bloom doesn't begrudge his "Pirates of the Caribbean" co-stars their success, even now that both Depp and Keira Knightley have Oscar nominations under their belts. Does Bloom feel the pressure to get a nod for his acting as well? "No, no, no," he says. "I just enjoy making movies." "Extras" returns to BBC2 in September, which means its stateside run on HBO shouldn't be far behind.

Haven preview Haven - Frank E. Flowers directs Orlando Bloom, Agnes Bruckner and Bobby Cannavale in a story that sounds really overheated: "greed collides with innocence and passion goes up against those who forbid it." Frank finally to bring 'Haven' home The much-anticipated premier of Frank Flowers' movie 'Haven' has been announced and the locally filmed picture will premiere on 16 September. "It has been a very long road for us, and we are excited to finally be bringing this film to the world," said the Caymanian Director and writer of "Haven", Frank E. Flowers. "This was my passion project and love song to the Island. We are dealing with a lot of issues in the film that are more prevalent now than ever before - especially in regards to the infiltration of gang culture and the tragedy of youth violence in these Islands. The premiere of this film will be done with the same spirit in which we made the picture, as we hope to involve the entire community and especially those who worked so hard, on every level, to make this a reality." -- Full report

John Knoll talks about the visual effects in the Pirates movies "Well, there's a lot of things we didn't do in Pirates 2 that we're going to take care of in Pirates 3," said Knoll. "Pirates 2 was primarily a character-oriented picture with Davy Jones's crew and all the interplay with Jack. There's not a lot of ship-to-ship battle action in 2 and we're going to take care of that in 3." What sort of new creatures will be part of Pirates of the Caribbean 3? Knoll responded, "I think I can't say too much specific about what we're doing in 3 other than the same imagination that went into coming up with new elements for 2 – all those imaginations are all still present. We've got good ideas, new fresh things for 3." Knoll confirmed one creature that's definitely not a part of Pirates 3. Knoll says we won't see any mermaids playing around in 3. Asked why not, Knoll replied, "You've got to talk to the writers about that. I just respond to what I see written in the script. [Maybe they're] saving something for the next chapter…" -- Full interview

Movie scenes to be shot in Clovis area Local residents can expect to see a film production crew around town in September, according to the film's location manager. R. Michael Charske confirmed Wednesday he scouted several locations throughout Clovis for the movie "Seasons of Dust." "I looked at tons of locations," Charske said, "but no contracts have been issued." The movie is a period piece set in the 1930s, so Charske said he searched for sites that would reflect that specific time period. "Obviously I wasn't looking at Hastings," Charske said. The location scout was evasive about which locations would possibly be used for the movie. "I just find locations," Charske said. "It is up to the director to make the final decisions."' The film has been written and will be directed by actor/film-maker Tim Blake Nelson, according to several entertainment Web sites. Orlando Bloom will join his real-life girlfriend Kate Bosworth in the independent drama. Bosworth plays the role of a girl who moves in with a family of farmers after her grandfather's suicide, according to multiple Web sites. When one of the farmers attempts to rape her, she runs away with a handsome thief. Bloom is set to play the role of the thief. Charske said the movie is currently on hiatus due to numerous issues, but is tentatively scheduled to begin filming in the fall. Liz Eisenbraun, film liaison for the Clovis-Curry Chamber of Commerce, said she hasn't heard from movie officials in two months. If "Seasons of Dust" is filmed in Clovis, it will be the second shot in the area.
Haven site update
Frank E. Flowers article 'Haven' is already being compared to other non-linear and gritty movies such as 'Pulp Fiction' and 'Amores Perros'. 'Haven', which was both written and directed by Flowers, features an extremely talented cast to compliment an extremely talented director. The shots of Flowers' home, the Cayman Islands, are beautiful. Both the supporting and leading acting roles are superbly done with few flaws. Orlando Bloom has transformed from a mere heartthrob to a very notable and gifted actor. Zoë Saldana, who is quickly rising to fame with her talent as much as her beauty, is both brilliant and heartbreaking, playing Bloom's rich love interest. Their onscreen chemistry is remarkable and you can give just as much credit to Flowers' directing as you can to the actors. -- Full article

Pirates gag reel
Orlando's cameo in Knocked Out After strong supporting work in flicks like "You, Me and Dupree" and "Anchorman," funnyman Seth Rogen finally gets his first starring role in the comedy "Knocked Up," which finishes filming this week in Las Vegas. The flick, due in 2007, boasts some significant cameos thanks to Katherine Heigl's character — an entertainment reporter whose ambitions come to a screeching halt when Rogen's slacker character gets her pregnant. "Because she works at E!, we have a lot of celebrities who were nice enough to come in and play themselves," Rogen revealed, adding that they cornered the unknowing celebs, including Owen Wilson, Steve Carell, Eva Mendes and Orlando Bloom. "We just planted ourselves on the red carpets, and when people came up, we said, 'Will you shoot a two-minute scene for our movie, wherein you make an inappropriate comment about her pregnant belly?' And most people were nice enough to do it."
