Orlando mentions
posted by Jas, 05/20/05
Two reviews of Star Wars Episode III than mention Orlando.

From Telegraph
And the acting - boy, oh boy, the acting. McGregor, very good in other things, looks unmistakably and rightly sheepish about his Alec Guinness impression. Samuel L Jackson can bring none of his usual furious cool to the characterisation-free-zone that is Mace Windu. And Christensen - less Anakin, more mannequin - makes Orlando Bloom in Kingdom of Heaven look good.

From MTV
"Revenge of the Sith" is a spectacular movie — the elegant interiors and computerized heavens and cascading whiz-bang effects might as well have "state of the art" stamped all over them. But apart from the new glow of contemplative poignance at the end, it's largely an empty spectacle. For all the skill and the jaunty humor with which the sprawling battle scenes have been put together, there's nothing in any of them as giddily unforgettable as Orlando Bloom sailing down the Oliphaunt's trunk in "The Return of the King."

Orlando pics at Flix

Corby reports that the last page of the Flix site is now open with interview? and some new pics of Orlando in Japan. Update 05/20/05: Pamela sent a brief translation of the interview.

This time, you're a playing a battle hero who is a quite different role compared with Troy.
I got the script right after Troy just wrapped up. It was so amazing reading it. It is just an opposite character to Paris, and it's also an interesting story. I am very appreciated to be able to play this role.

What have you done to play this role?
Well, I think most of the part is muscle training. In order to being more like a macho, I gained nearly 9 kg, eating a lot, have more training. And also my voice, to make it lower and more steady, I also had training for that. Although Balian is very young, I still have to play it more manly. On the other hand, there's traditional sword training, it was much different from before, using my both hands. I really enjoyed the learning.

What is your most impressive magnificent image of Ridley Scott?
Ridley is very talented director. He can make the history or a world that not even exist look so real, just like the audience are living within it, Whether in Gladiator or Black Hawk Down. This is my most impressive thought of him. Ridley is really a man of integrity, and he always welcomes others opinion. He makes so much efforts on his work, and influences the people around him, makes them working harder.

We heard that you were really nervous while shooting the love-scene with the leading lady, Eva Green. She was quite calm then, but you seemed really nervous. Is it true?
Yeah. She drank Whiskey, and kept persuading me "Would you want one?".

So you were nervous, and she was totally drunk?
Yeah. I think that's why she wasn't nervous at all. But I was. It's the first time for me doing this. It is the real "MAKE LOVE", that kind of love scene. (laughing)

The main theme of the film is quite difficult, there're already lots of discussions around the world, in every country.
Kingdom of Heaven is not a story about Muslim or anything about battle. We shouldn't put our focus on these part. It's about a man's journey. (He talked about this a lot before, so...skip! :p)

From LOTR trilogy till now, it seems that your career is so smooth. If the luck won't continue, are you scared of that?
I had lots of wonderful experiences from LOTR trilogy. I wish that I could use all I have learned from it in my future films, and don't waste it. I hope that I can do much more improvement every time.

Have you get accustomed to live as a star?
You mean lots of women flying to me? You really mean that, don't you? Well, in fact, it is not. (laughing) Most of time I am by myself, sleeping or relaxing. Usually I go out with my friends or my families, and sometimes I join some parties, having fun. But it is just sometimes.

Do you still do the bungee jumping now?
No, I haven't done bungee jumping after leaving NZ. Everyone in NZ do crazy things, so there's exception for me to do so. That is really so much fun! I got no chances to do that leaving NZ. But things like surfing, or snowboard, I am doing them even now! I went to Brazil not long time ago, and surfing there. That is so exciting even just thinking surfing!
