The Sights and Star Power at Comic-Con 2005
posted by Jas, 07/29/05
Moviefone has a report on some of the clips/trailers shown at the recent Comic-Con and has this to say about the behind the scene footage of POTC: Dead Man's Chest

What We Saw: A woefully short behind-the-scenes piece, yet we did extract some interesting tidbits. There will be a second ship, called the Flying Dutchman, and a plot centering around a promise Jack Sparrow made to villain Davey Jones, who appeared briefly in the piece. Sparrow's dear ole dad will be played by none other than Keith Richards (of course). And looks like Johnny Depp will be taken captive by some fierce, red-faced cannibals. Yo ho, yo ho!
Fan Reaction: As a testament to star Orlando Bloom's babe status, his brief appearance in the clip elicited screams and faints from female fans. And oh yeah, everyone was pretty excited about Johnny too.
Star Wattage: Sadly for the women (and some men) present, none.

More questions answered about Paris Je T'aime
posted by Jas, 07/28/05
Executive producer of Paris Je T'aime has answered more questions about the film at the IMDb forum board

MoogleFinFan: Can you dish out any details about the plot for segment 4?
Chad_Troutwine: I know everyone's anxious about this segment given it's location, the cast (two males), and the director, Gus Van Sant. I cannot say anything at this point and may choose not to for some time. I'll keep you posted on what I can. Sorry!

cawdaisy: As a big (non-obsessed & non-teenie) Orlando Bloom fan, I am particularly interested if this segment will be in French or English. Is that asking too much? Not trying to pry....
Chad_Troutwine: Orlando's segment is in English. Approximately 70% of PJT is in English, 20% in French, and 10% other. There are a lot of sounds and cultural influences in Paris -- our film will reflect many of them. Thanks for your interest!

rumbottle_ships_cat:
What film or production companies are associated with this project?
Who is the US Distribution partner?
Will the film premiere at a Film Festival or at it's own venue?
What will be the final length?
What will the film be rated (in US or UK terms)?
Are the segments scripted or ad-libbed?
Will each director edit his/her own segment and send the completed film to be spliced together with the others, or will you producers control the final edit of each segment?
Are any segments filming right now? Thanks so much for making yourself available to us.
Chad_Troutwine:
We are waiting to select a US distributor after PJT makes its cinematic debut. We imagine that PJT will premiere at one of the world's premire film festivals -- Cannes could be a perfect fit, no?
The film should be ~120 minutes and will be rated US PG13 unless the language pushes it to R (no nudity). Each segment is closely scripted, though Directors are always free to let their actors improvise, if they see fit.
There will be a Director's Cut of each segment, but each Director has agreed to let us have final cut of the overall film.
We are shooting the 4th. Thank you for your interest -- it's my pleasure!

huckfinn38: Directors have really absolute freedom over their 5 minutes? The story is written and imagined by who, the writers of the transitions or the directors? Is it planned an official website dedicated to this project? If so, when is it expected to open?
Chad_Troutwine: Each Director pens his or her own story under the guidelines designed by Emmanuel Benbihy (one of the Producers and concept writers). Once the mini-script is approved, the Director shoots and edits a 5-9 minute Director's cut. Once all of the segments are complete, we (the producing team) have final say about the edited 5 minute segments and the transitions connecting them.

The website is already designed, and we will hold a breathtaking release later this year. Imagine a lushly designed three-dimensional version of Paris on the home page that morphs from daytime cityscape into a moonlit evening every twelve hours. The site will include fully developed areas with studio stills of the shoot and information about the Director, cast, and crew for each arrondisement. Naturally, we will have lots of information about the relevant neighborhoods, too. The site will serve both as a detailed biography of the Making of Paris je t'aime and a unique place to learn about the City of Lights. I can't announce the date yet, but it will be a while -- we want to complete more of the segments first. Thanks for another great set of questions!

melody69nelson:
1. Which segment have been shot yet apart for the Tom Tykwer one?
2. Will the 10-minute Tom Tykwer segment be shorten to 5 minutes?
3. Why isn't Sally Potter listed anymore although her segment "Yes" was the first one to be shot (alongside the Agnes Varda one which isn't part of Paris je t'aime either anymore)?
4. Why isn't there any director attached to the 18th arrondissement segment? Do you keep it a surprise?
5. Are Johnny Depp & Vanessa Paradis still attached to the Vincenzo Natali segment?
6. Why isn't Michel Gondry attached anymore? 7. Did Sofia Coppola turn down the project or was it never proposed to her?
Chad_Troutwine:
1. As odd as it seems, we have decided to stay a little mysterious about which segments we've completed. We've done that primarily to reduce the number of anxious distributors pressing us to see the film piecemeal. Other sources have released very favorable reviews of a segment by the Coen Brothers featuring Steve Buscemi in Arrt. 1. I can confirm that the Coens screened it at Yale University, my graduate school, to a select group of students. I don't believe that we will screen it again independently of the film.
2. I think we'll shorten the Tykwer segment to 6 or 7. It's so stunning and densely packed with amazing shots, it's a shame to trim any of it. Naturally, we plan to include Director's cuts of all the segments on a companion DVD after the film's cinematic run concludes.
3. and 4. I can't comment about any specific attachments, beyond noting that this film is so sprawling that dates can often conflict. Everyone on on our team loves Sally Potter.
5. and 6. and 7. Even given the fluidity of the project (and my comments above), I can reveal small nuggets about some of the names: Depp's larger film commitments run so close together, both camps felt that his commitment was impossible. I cannot comment about Michel Gondry. We did appraoch Sofia, though I never spoke to her directly. According to her representatives, she spoke very warmly about the project, but her commitment to Marie Antionette would preclude her participation. Thank you for your continued interest,

salome-17: Just wondering if Willem Dafoe and Juliette Binoche have filmed their segment yet. Loved them in The English Patient
Chad_Troutwine: They have not, but we are shooting this one soon. I'll keep you posted.

MoogleFinFan: Ooh, couple more questions. Will the dialogue be completely in French? Or will it be a mixture of both French and English? Will any of the English speaking actors be speaking French and, if so, can you tell us which ones? Thanks.
Chad_Troutwine: Approximately 70% of PJT is in English, 20% in French, and 10% other. There are a lot of sounds and cultural influences in Paris -- our film will reflect many of them. As for your earlier question -- I cannot give out plot details about any of the segments. I appreciate your enthusiasm!
