Keira Knightley on POTC sequels
posted by Jas, 02/03/05
VH1 has a short report on Keira Knightley talking about the POTC sequels. "We're all back and swashbuckling," Keira said while promoting "The Jacket" at the Sundance Film Festival last week. "I don't know anything about the story. I hear a secret script has arrived in my flat, but I haven't read anything yet, no character breakdowns, no nothing." Shooting starts in March. And in an interview with Moviehole she said she hasn't read the script yet, "but all I know is we're supposed to be filming in March. I've just signed on the dotted line for Pirates, but I don't know what I'm doing afterwards."

Rush hopes Richards will appear in POTC sequels
posted by Jas, 02/03/05
AZ Central reports that Geoffrey Rush is hopeful about rumours that Keith Richards will appear in the sequel. "It would be brilliant," he says, laughing. Rush is looking forward to collaborating again with Johnny Depp and he was surprised at the phenomenal success of "Pirates," which has earned $305 million. "We were always working under the curse that pirate films could notoriously fail at the drop of a plumed hat," he says. "But I reckoned that Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio, who had written 'Shrek,' had written this great thing. We knew that we had a dialogue-driven, strong, boisterous, narrative film that wasn't just full of special effects. As actors we had stuff to get our teeth into." POTC 2 is scheduled for a summer 2006 release.

Possible shooting of POTC 2 in Dominica
posted by Jas, 02/03/05
Caribbean Net News report that although Disney has not confirmed yet, government officials are confident that the sequel will be filmed in Dominica. Disney's representatives have made several visits to Dominica since August last year and have visited several locations on the island. Director Gore Verbinski and people from Disney are expected on the island within next week for a technical scouting trip. Some of the potential sites include Pegua Bay, Titou Gorge, High Meadow and Pointe Guinade near Soufriere, Hampstead Beach, the Indian River among others. Much of the filming is expected to be done along the Vielle Case coast and other locations in the North East. Actual sets will be constructed in Soufriere and Vielle Case.

POTC 2 spoilers

Petra reports that there's a discussion on POTC 2 plot at the Internet Movie Database message board. Walt Disney studio chairman announced at the investor conference that POTC 2 will be released in summer 2006 and POTC 3 the following summer of 2007. He also added that part 2 will be called "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest". Below is the transcript of the conference about POTC 2 transcribed by tina_als_girl

Now, for the big guns... literally. One of our biggest franchises to date is "Pirates of the Caribbean." This film surpassed even our greatest expectations. Worldwide, it made more than $650 million at the box-office and sold more than 30 million DVD and VHS units. In total, "Pirates" has already generated more than $1.2 billion in total revenues in the first 19 months since opening.

And now we have 2 more "Pirates" adventures in the works, both of which are huge company-wide priorities. Coming summer of 2006 and summer 2007 are the much-anticipated "Pirates of the Caribbean 2" and "3".

And since you're a special audience, I think we can do better than that. We haven't announced this yet, and you're the first audience outside the company to hear the title of the latest installment of this fantastic saga: "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest". And everybody is back for both sequels. We have the original producer, Jerry Bruckheimer; original director, Gore Verbinski; and of course, our original cast is on board--Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, and Keira Knightley... plus a few other casting surprises.

This time around, Johnny returns as Captain Jack Sparrow and is caught in yet another tangled web of supernatural intrigue. It turns out, Captain Jack owes a blood debt to the legendary Davey Jones, ruler of the ocean depths and captain of the ghostly Flying Dutchman. If Jack can't figure a crafty way out of this one, he'll be cursed to an afterlife of eternal servitude and damnation. And as if that weren't enough, Captain Jack's problems throw a huge wrench into the wedding plans of the blissful Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann, who quickly find themselves thrust into Jack's misadventures.

Suffice it to say, we think "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" will be the must-see movie of the 2006 summer season.
