Synopsis of Orlando’s upcoming film “Albert Nobbs” starring Glen Close, Amanda Seyfried, Jonathan Rhys Meyers. To be directed by Rodrigo Garcia, shooting starts in June in Dublin.

19th century Ireland: a woman with no husband or family and without work would face a bleak life of poverty and loneliness. Albert, a shy butler who keeps himself to himself, has been hiding a deep secret for years – ‘he’ is a woman who has had to dress and behave as a man all her life in order to escape this fate. When handsome painter Hubert Page arrives at the hotel, Albert is inspired to try and escape the false life she has created for herself. She gathers her nerves to court beautiful, saucy young maid Helen in whom she thinks she’s found a soul-mate – but Helen’s eye is on a new arrival: handsome, bad-boy Joe, the new handy-man…

As Albert dares to hope that she might one day live a normal life, we catch a glimpse of a free-spirited woman who is caught in the wrong time… This humorous but ultimately poignant ensemble story about life ‘below-stairs’ is nothing less than Gosford Park meets Boys Don’t Cry.

In an interview with Cinematical, Amanda Seyfried talks about her character in “Albert Nobbs”, Orlando will play her lover. Spoilers ahead!

While in NYC to discuss her sexy new thriller Chloe, from director Atom Egoyan, Amanda Seyfried was happy to chat about her new project with Glenn Close, Albert Nobbs. Close starred in an off-Broadway adaptation of George Moore’s short story in 1982 as the title character, a woman who lives as a man in the Victorian era in order to take advantage of the luxuries and opportunities not otherwise afforded to women at that time. Close is starring as Albert Nobbs this time around too; she also co-wrote the screenplay and is producing the Rodrigo García-directed film.

Seyfriend couldn’t officially confirm that she was signed on to The Girl with the Red Riding Hood (after accidentally slipping up and mentioning it to Ryan Seacrest at the Oscars), but she was happy to discuss Nobbs, which sounds equally interesting.

“[Close] cast me in it to play her love interest … and it’s f*cking amazing. It’s a really amazing script! It’s crazy. It’s a version of myself, but with an accent, so it’s going to be really challenging in a very technical way, but I’m so excited to talk about that. That’s confirmed!”

Later, she added, “She plays a woman playing a man because those days, in order to get by, sometimes you had to pretend you were a man to get those certain types of jobs that, you know, paid well. I play a maid, and Orlando Bloom plays my lover, and Janet McTeer and I think Jonathan Rhys Meyers are in it.” Full report.
